Ros Mussa

Ros qualified as a dispensing optician from City and East London College in 1989 and went on to work in both independent practices and small groups. Ros became involved in writing and delivering training programmes for pre-reg and newly qualified professional staff, as well as for optical assistants. In 1997 Ros worked as Optical Products Advisor in the film industry. Around this time Ros took her professional exams as a CLO and qualified in 1999.

Ros currently spends three days a week in practice as a CLO in the City of London for a large multiple plus one day a week on the staff at the City University, supervising final year optometry undergraduates in their contact lens tutorials and preparing them for their finals. In 2008 Ros joined the Johnson & Johnson team to work with THE VISION CARE INSTITUTE™ programmes.

Craig Wilcox

Craig Wilcox qualified in South Africa where he founded the CLASSIC Eyes group in 1989, he then moved to the UK in 1997. He has been in practice for 22 years and has always been actively involved in contact lens clinical trials both in the UK and in South Africa. Craig is currently practicing in Bournemouth with other practices in the UK, Botswana and South Africa.

Clair Bulpin

Clair qualified in optometry nine years ago after graduating from Cardiff University. She received the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers prize for best results in Routine, Dispensing and Abnormal Ocular Disease for her PQEs.

She undertook her pre-registration year with Boots Opticians, a company she has remained with since in a variety of roles. She has experience in practice management and was a Senior Optometrist for a number of years working in many practices and laser cinics. She has supervised numerous pre-registration students and continues to remain involved with company training programmes.

Throughout these years she has also spent time in Cardiff University supervising student clinics, has been a faculty member with THE VISION CARE INSTITUTE™ and has recently been appointed into an assessor role for the College of Optometrists.

Simon Donne

Simon qualified in the early eighties after graduating from City University and gained a wide experience working in practices ranging from the small independent to lthe arge, busy multiples. He has owned his own independent high street practice in Bedford for over 16 years where approximately half of appointments are contact lens related.

Simon has been a clinical investigator for ten years, working closely with contact lens manufacturers on new product clinical trials. Informing patients of these products and communicating their associated benefits has always been a major part of his contact lens practice. Simon regularly presents to fellow eye care professionals on communication skills and on the promotion and improvement of professional services.

David Spicer

David graduated from The City University with a BSc Honours in Optometry in 1981. He completed his professional training in private practice in Oxford in 1982. Since then, David has worked predominantly in private practice and from 1986 to 1990 worked one day a week at the Oxford Eye Hospital fitting specialist Contact Lenses including keratoconic, aphakic and post-graft. David and his wife now co-own a successful independent Optometry practice on the outskirts of Oxford.

David has been an active member of Oxfordshire Local Optometric Committee for over 20 years, including spells as Chairman. He is currently Vice-Chair. David also recently helped steer the introduction of a Diabetic Retinopathy Screening scheme involving local optometrists. David regularly attends National Optometric Conferences on behalf of the LOC.

Peter G Ivins

Peter is an optometrist with thirty years’ experience. Up until March 2008, Peter was CEO and co-owner of Black and Lizars, a Scottish chain of optometrists with 25 practices wih a heavy emphasis on contact lenses, with responsibility for the Commercial side of the business: sales, margins, marketing and training. The company was acquired in 2008 by a private investment group with a view to expansion. Peter remains involved in the business with responsibility for the clinical functions of the company, contact lenses, optometric training as well as driving forward new clinical initiatives in the areas of macular screening and specialist services.

Peter has lectured extensively in UK, USA, Australia, China, South Africa and Europe on contact lenses, vision in sport, VDUs and vision, contact lens strategy for growth, business management and fee structures. He has recently enrolled as a post-graduate student in ocular therapeutics.

Shehzad Naroo

Shehzad Naroo is a lecturer and director of taught post-graduate programmes in optometry at Aston University. He teaches contact lenses, refractive surgery, law and occupational optometry. His research includes refractive surgery, corneal topography, sports vision, contact lenses and intraocular lenses.

Shehzad is a past Chairman of the Northern Optometric Society, past Chairman of the British Universities Committee of Contact Lens Educators and past Treasurer of the British Society for Refractive Surgery. He is an examiner for the College of Optometrists, Editor-in-Chief of the journal Contact Lens and Anterior Eye and Vice President of the International Association of Contact Lens Educators. He was invited to present to the All-Party Select Committee of the House of Commons on Safety in Laser Surgery in 2004. He is also involved in assisting optometry in developing countries.

Peter Charlesworth

Peter Charlesworth is an optometrist and Managing Director of Replay Learning. He is a former examiner and councillor of the College of Optometrists, a member of the GOC's fitness to practise committee and holds an MSc in Investigative Ophthalmology and Vision Science from the University of Manchester.

Peter was Boots Opticians Tutor Practitioner at the University of Bradford for seven years. His duties there included teaching the Law and Management module to final year students and a clinical investigative techniques module to the second year. Peter has worked in many types of optometric practice from high street to hospital. His specialist interests include the law relating to optometry, optometric investigative techniques and ocular disease and its management.

Sarah Morgan

Sarah Morgan is an optometrist and staff development consultant. She has worked in a variety of independent and multiple practices, which led to her passion for training. At the University of Manchester she is involved in undergraduate teaching. With her expertise in the field of effective patient communication, she has trained hundreds of staff in her tailored interactive seminars for front-line staff, dispensing opticians, optometrists and colleagues from industry. Her second book, ‘The Complete Optometric Assistant’, is a ready-to-use training aid, packed with everyday information essential to all practice staff with recommendations throughout on how best to apply the knowledge in practice when faced with the challenge of enhancing the knowledge and skills of staff.

Sarah is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and is a Fellow, past Council member and PR Officer of the British Contact Lens Association.
